About Jasmine Games

I’m Jasmine Games (she/her) — a Black queer poet, theatre maker, and educator born in Dallas, raised in Houston, and rooted in Austin, TX. My work lives at the intersections of poetry, performance, and social justice, where I use words and theatre as tools for healing, disruption, and transformation.

I serve as Artistic Director of The Poet House, home to every.Word Poetry and Courageous Cadence, and as Director of Education & Social Justice at The VORTEX. Through these roles, I produce and direct theatre, host open mics, and lead writing and performance workshops in poetry, playwriting, devised theatre, and applied theatre. My trainings also engage participants of all ages in conversations about race, gender, sexuality, and disability, inviting communities to imagine more liberated futures together.

An award-winning artist, I received the 2021 Sexton Prize for Poetry for my debut collection, Somebody’s Daughter. I am also a Winifred Ward Scholar and a finalist of the 2025 Blackberry Peach National Poetry Slam and the 2025 Right2Write Poetry Slam Festival. My artistry has been featured at the Texas State Capitol, the African American Book Festival, Free2Be Fest, and in venues across Texas and beyond. As a host, moderator, and panelist, I create spaces where dialogue and performance move hand in hand.

Whether on stage or in the classroom, I believe art is not only to be witnessed but to be lived. Through every poem, workshop, and performance, I am building stages, breaking tables, and forging freedom.
